What’s included

Everything that goes
into your document

01
Dedicated Writer Assignment
You work with the same writer every month. They learn your business, your tone, your goals, and your audience — so every engagement starts from understanding, not from zero.
02
Monthly Scope Setting
At the start of each month, we agree on what’s being written: a grant application, two proposals, a newsletter, a strategy document, or a mix. Scope is flexible within the retainer.
03
Priority Turnaround
Retainer clients get priority scheduling. If something urgent comes up mid-month, your work goes to the front of the queue.
04
Business Writing (any combination)
Proposals, grant applications, strategy documents, newsletters, business plans, pitch decks, or any combination of the services Planwrit offers — all under one monthly arrangement.
05
Consistent Voice & Brand Alignment
Because your writer knows your business, every document is consistent in tone, terminology, and positioning. No re-briefing from scratch for every piece.
06
Monthly Check-In Call
A brief call at the start of each month to review what’s coming up, reprioritise if needed, and confirm the scope for the month ahead.

Who this is for

The right fit for
your situation

🏢
Growing businesses with ongoing writing needs
You need proposals, grant applications, strategy documents, and content regularly — but not a full-time employee. A retainer fills that gap economically.
📊
Businesses applying to multiple grant programs
If you’re targeting several federal or provincial grant programs across the year, a retainer is more cost-effective than separate engagements and ensures consistent quality.
💼
Professional services firms with active proposal pipelines
Consulting, technology, HR, and other B2B firms that respond to multiple RFPs per month benefit from a dedicated writer who understands the business.
🌏
Immigrant-owned businesses building Canadian presence
Consistent, professional writing across proposals, content, and communications builds credibility in a new market over time.
🏛️
Non-profits with regular reporting and funding needs
Grant reporting, impact summaries, program proposals, and board communications managed by one writer who understands the organisation.
🚀
Startups in growth mode
Investor updates, pitch decks, partner proposals, and content — all handled by one writer who understands your stage, your voice, and your goals.
Why Planwrit for this

What makes this
worth your investment

01
The work gets better over time
A new writer starts every project from scratch. A retainer writer builds knowledge of your business, sector, and goals every month — and the quality of the work reflects it.
02
Economical for high-volume needs
If you need more than two or three pieces of writing per month, a retainer is almost always more cost-effective than per-piece pricing.
03
Consistent voice across everything
One writer. One voice. Every proposal, grant, newsletter, and strategy document sounds like it comes from the same organisation — because it does.
04
Priority access to your writer
Retainer clients don’t compete with the project queue. When something urgent arrives, your work is prioritised.
05
Flexible scope month to month
One month you need a grant application and two proposals. The next month you need a pitch deck and a newsletter. The retainer adjusts without renegotiation.
06
Cultural fluency for immigrant-owned businesses
We specialise in helping immigrant businesses build a consistent, professional presence in Canada. A retainer accelerates that over time.

Common questions

Everything you need
to know before starting

The retainer covers a defined scope of writing work each month, agreed at the start of the engagement. This can include any combination of Planwrit’s services: proposals, grant applications, strategy documents, newsletters, business plans, or pitch deck content. The scope is set monthly and can flex within the retainer rate.

Planwrit’s monthly retainer rates start at CAD $1,000 and go to CAD $1,800 per month, depending on the typical volume and complexity of work. We discuss your likely monthly needs during the discovery call and quote accordingly. There are no lock-in contracts — we ask for 30 days’ notice if you want to pause or end the arrangement.

We ask for a minimum of three months to make the retainer worthwhile for both parties. The first month is a calibration month where we build knowledge of your business and establish the workflow. Quality typically peaks from month two onward.

Yes. We understand that business needs change. If you need to pause, we ask for 30 days’ notice. Retainers can be paused for up to two months before we need to treat it as a new engagement.

Businesses that regularly produce proposals, grant applications, or strategic documents — professional services firms, non-profits, growing SMEs, and immigrant-owned businesses building their Canadian presence. If you find yourself needing a business writer more than once a quarter, a retainer is almost always more cost-effective and produces better results.
