What sector or industry does your business operate in?

Some sectors are viewed more favourably by IRCC because of their economic contribution or alignment with Canada's priorities. This helps us calibrate the significant benefit argument in your plan.

How much capital are you planning to invest in the business?

This is your own money — not a loan. It helps to know the benchmarks: PNP entrepreneur streams have minimum investment thresholds that vary by province — Ontario GTA $600,000, Ontario outside GTA $200,000, BC Base Stream $200,000, Alberta rural $100,000. For C11 owner-operator applications there is no fixed minimum. Select the range that best reflects your planned investment — this helps us give you the most accurate assessment.

Will your business create jobs for Canadians or permanent residents?

Job creation is one of IRCC's key "significant benefit" criteria for owner-operator work permits. Even 1–2 positions can be meaningful — what matters is that they are real, documented, and plausible given your business model.

IRCC looks at whether you have the background to realistically operate the business you're proposing. This doesn't mean you need decades of experience — but your plan needs to be credible given your track record.
